  • BBC Musician visits Marner

    Published 09/06/26

The Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES) partnered with the BBC to bring 'Meet a Musician Workshop' to schools in East London. These sessions featured professional musicians from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers visiting schools directly. Marner Year 4 pupils were visited by a professional violinist. The children joined in by creating music using their bodies and learnt about vibration. They spoke about the emotions that music can evoke. The children said that it was a very good experience and that music made them feel calm.

The musician recommended a website called  'BBC Ten Pieces' which opens up the world of classical music to 7–14 year olds. You can explore the exciting films, lesson plans and instrumental arrangements.

  • Saturday - Shine at Gorsefield

    Published 08/06/26

What a fantastic day the SHINE children had on Saturday at Gorsfield! Although the weather was very wet and rainy for most of the day, the children took part in every activity with enthusiasm and resilience. The sun even made a brief appearance, which was a lovely bonus!

The children worked brilliantly together in the shelter building activity and created a tent. Their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills were wonderful to see.

They also learnt khow to build and safely light their own campfire before enjoying toasted marshmallows.

During the cordage activity, the children made necklaces and bracelets using ribbons and wooden beads that they created themselves from elderberry twigs. This activity encouraged creativity and perseverance.

The children also had a great time exploring the adventure park and enjoyed taking part in a friendly football match with Mr Jithu and Mr Ruhul making the most of every opportunity while the sun was out.

We were incredibly proud of how well the children conducted themselves throughout the trip. They were safe, sensible and ready to participate in every activity. They listened carefully to the activity leaders and showed them respect at all times.

Despite the rain, the children had an amazing time and represented our school beautifully.

    Well done, everyone!

  • The sun shone for International Day!

    Published 22/05/26

Marner was an array of colours for their first International Day. The children (and staff) looked wonderful in their outfits. The music added to the spirit of celebrating diversity (Thank you, DJ Laura). The classes got to learn about different countries and produced wonderful displays to show what the countries represented. These will be displayed across the school. Thank you to The Friends of Marner for providing refreshments and for so many parents coming along to support the event and cheering the children on. We particularly loved the group of parents who danced and entertained us at the end of the event, keen to party on!

A massive thank you to Patricia and Mashuda for all their hard work organising everything.

  • Marner International Day

    Published 11/05/26

    Dear Parents and Carers,

This year, Marner will be celebrating International Day of Culture on 21st and 22nd of May.  Each class has randomly picked out a country from a list of all the countries that are represented at Marner. On Thursday, 21st May, each class will be learning about the country that was selected and will be creating a class project that will be on display on Friday 22nd May. We would like to ask parents to help by lending out any items that could be displayed along with these projects.  Some examples of items are flags, crafts, musical instruments, games, books, food, photos and decorations (all related to the country that your family is from).  Please bring these in to the reception with a label stating your child’s name and class name along with the name of the country it is from.  These items can then be sent to each respective class so that they can be displayed. On Friday, children will be allowed to come to school dressed in traditional dress or the colours of their own country's flag.  They will also be asked to bring in something that they would like to share with their classmates about their own country and culture (food, music, photos, traditional dress, flag, etc).  They will be asked to give a brief explanation of what they brought in, what it represents, etc.

  • Roundel Design Winners

    Published 11/05/26

Khaleefah Muquith has been awarded 1st Runner-up and Mikel Johnson has been awarded 2nd Runner-up in the 2026 Pollinators Roundel Design Challenge for students with SEND.

This is an incredible achievement and a real celebration of our pupils’ creativity, individuality and talent. The feedback from the judging panel was especially moving, with Khaleefah’s design being described as “visually distinctive, imaginative and suitable for translation into stained glass.” As a result, his design has actually been commissioned and will be brought to life as a completed stained-glass roundel.

Both pupils will also be recognised within the official Gala Programme (City of London), and Khaleefah has been invited to present the completed roundel at the Reflections of The Lord Mayor Gala Evening at Butchers’ Hall in July.

We are incredibly proud of both pupils and what they have achieved. It is lovely to see our children being recognised and celebrated in such a meaningful way beyond the school community. This also highlights the importance of creative opportunities and inclusive provision for our pupils with SEND.
