Marner International Day

Dear Parents and Carers,
This year, Marner will be celebrating International Day of Culture on 21st and 22nd of May. Each class has randomly picked out a country from a list of all the countries that are represented at Marner. On Thursday, 21st May, each class will be learning about the country that was selected and will be creating a class project that will be on display on Friday 22nd May. We would like to ask parents to help by lending out any items that could be displayed along with these projects. Some examples of items are flags, crafts, musical instruments, games, books, food, photos and decorations (all related to the country that your family is from). Please bring these in to the reception with a label stating your child’s name and class name along with the name of the country it is from. These items can then be sent to each respective class so that they can be displayed. On Friday, children will be allowed to come to school dressed in traditional dress or the colours of their own country's flag. They will also be asked to bring in something that they would like to share with their classmates about their own country and culture (food, music, photos, traditional dress, flag, etc). They will be asked to give a brief explanation of what they brought in, what it represents, etc.
Key aspects of International Day Celebration at Marner:
-
Mini-world experience: Classrooms to focus on a country given to them, allowing pupils to explore and learn about.
-
Presentation/ Showcase: Display work from each class on an A1 poster Culture Show and Tell in classroom - Children bring in something that represents their culture/heritage
-
Fashion Show/Parade: Children and staff parade in traditional clothing, showcasing the school’s diverse community. (Parents will be invited to watch)
-
Carnival: We will conclude with a vibrant Carnival featuring music and dance from all cultures in the outdoor space. All year groups to celebrate their heritage/culture.
Mini Gallery: Posters/work to be displayed in one of the huts (cooking room/meeting room) for classes to view on Friday. Parents to view after dropping off children on Friday morning.
