After School clubs
Each term we offer a variety of After School clubs. For some of these clubs children are selected, for others children can choose and sign up. We endeavour to have a range of clubs across the year groups and ensure all children have a chance to take part if they wish to.
Shine On Saturdays at Marner
The SHINE on Saturday programme provides 100 hours of additional and creative learning every year, designed to boost achievement levels.
The project is based at Marner school and runs for 20 Saturdays working with 50-60 students.
This year it begins on Saturday 4th October 2025 and will run from 10am-3pm for 20 weeks.
What Saturday School aims to do:
- It exists for students to achieve more and enhance their learning.
- It is designed to be distinctive from, but complementary to, the school week.
- We will have smaller classes of mixed ages and mixed abilities.
- We will have older students to act as peer mentors from local secondary schools.
- It will emphasise learning through play, enrichment and activity-based learning; each term has a main theme, supported by investigative learning in literacy, mathematics, science, technology and nutrition. We include use of the climbing wall, cycling, cookery and art.
- It will have an absolute commitment to raising expectations, attaining high standards and demonstrating improved performance.
- To promote the development of children in a safe, secure and happy environment.
What we expect from you:
In return, we expect excellent weekly attendance and punctuality. We expect a commitment to the Saturday school from parents and children.
The activities Children will be able to join in with a variety of activities over the year. These will range from visits to museums and galleries and excursions to explore areas of London and beyond. Last year we had a trip to steam railway in Kent, Stubbers outdoor activity centre in Essex and Gorsefield rural studies centre in Essex. All activities will provide opportunities for enrichment.
