Physical Education
Marner follows the real PE curriculum:
'Our focus is CHILD FIRST so every pupil can feel INCLUDED, SUPPORTED and CELEBRATED.'
At our school, PE is a valued part of the curriculum and supports children’s health, confidence and wellbeing. We aim to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity through high-quality, inclusive PE lessons and a wide range of sporting opportunities.
We use the RealPE scheme of work to ensure lessons are engaging and accessible for all pupils. Children also benefit from a strong programme of extra-curricular clubs, including football (boys and girls), multi-sports, basketball and climbing, with opportunities to gain NICAS climbing awards.
Additional specialist provision includes Year 5 swimming, tennis coaching for all year groups and Platform Cricket coaches for Year 4. Pupils can also represent the school in borough-wide competitions such as athletics, cross country, football and basketball.
Our excellent facilities, including a 4G football pitch, tennis and basketball courts, and indoor and outdoor climbing walls, help us provide exciting and varied PE experiences for all children.
Climbing at Marner
Our school features a unique, dedicated indoor climbing wall installed during school redevelopment to promote physical activity. Used with fully trained external sports coaches, the facility is part of the curriculum and also used for Saturday 'Shine' school activities as well as delivering a climbing club that provides certification through the NICAS Award (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme). The wall is designed as a bright, accessible mountain landscape and allows children to engage in physical development. We also have a traverse wall in the outdoor area used for activities and, during playtimes, it has recently been painted to resemble a mountain scape.
Our climbing club runs on Thursday and allows students to work towards a National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) award. This is a nationally recognised award. Our students complete level 1 at Climbing Club. It is an entry-level award designed to learn foundational climbing skills, safety procedures, and techniques under supervision. It focuses on safety-conscious attitudes, basic movement, and equipment usage, typically requiring 10-12 sessions.
Some of our students who have completed the NICAS level one award are:
- Ana Ahmed
- Ihsaan Miah
- Desire Oduola
- Yusra Abdulhaq
- Sara Hussain
- Fehmi Atabas
- Rizwan Shofi
- Tanisha Begum
