History Curriculum at Marner
The curriculum is supported by the Pearsons Primary History Curriculum.
At Marner Primary School, our history curriculum aims to inspire pupils’ curiosity about the past and help them develop a secure understanding of key historical periods, events and significant individuals. Through engaging
and accessible lessons, children build a strong foundation of historical knowledge while developing essential skills such as chronological understanding, asking and answering questions about the past, analysing
and evaluating historical evidence, and showing empathy towards people who lived in different times. Our curriculum is inclusive and carefully adapted to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring that every child is
supported and challenged to succeed. Pupils are encouraged to make comparisons between different periods of history and to understand how the past has shaped the world they live in today.
Children’s historical learning begins in the Early Years by exploring their own lives and family histories, providing a familiar starting point. This understanding is developed further in Key Stage 1, where pupils learn about
events beyond living memory and significant individuals, building early chronological awareness and recognising similarities and differences between past and present. This foundation is then extended in
Key Stage 2, as pupils develop a secure understanding of British and world history, making connections across time, analysing historical sources, and considering different perspectives.
