Computing Curriculum Overview

At Marner we base our teaching on the Computing Programmes of Study from the National Curriculum using the Curriculum tool, Teach Computing. Teach Computing is a curriculum created by the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE).

Effective pedagogy is at the heart of good teaching and learning; successful computing teachers combine their knowledge of the subject with evidence-based teaching practices. As computing is a relatively new discipline, evidence of effective teaching approaches continues to emerge and evolve. How we teach Computing at Marner is based upon the 12 pedagogy principles created by the NCCE.

The children develop their skills each year in 3 areas of learning; Creating Media, Data and Information and Programming. This helps them to  broaden their experience of a range of technology devices and the use of everyday technological tools.

These three topics are developed throughout the children’s Marner Primary School experience alongside a more general understanding of computing systems and networks.

We also use Educated for a Connected World to support the understanding of online safety. Each half term starts with sessions based on Project Evolve

This is a framework created by the UK council for Internet Safety and  is designed to equip children and young people for a digital life using these 8 areas of understanding.
