Geography Curriculum at Marner

At Marner Primary School, our geography curriculum aims to inspire pupils’ wonder about the world around them and develop a secure understanding of places, environments, and the interactions between people and the physical world. Through engaging and accessible lessons, children build strong geographical knowledge alongside essential skills such as map reading, fieldwork, data collection and analysis, and understanding the
interconnections between human and physical geography. Our inclusive curriculum is thoughtfully adapted to meet the needs of all learners, so that all pupils can engage fully and reach their potential, while developing
an appreciation of different places and cultures and understanding how human activity affects the world today.

Children’s geographical learning begins in the Early Years with a focus on their immediate environment, including their home, school and local area. This foundation is developed further in Key Stage 1, where pupils explore contrasting locations in the UK and the wider world, learning about human
and physical features, weather, and basic geographical vocabulary. In Key Stage 2, pupils extend this understanding through the study of a range of countries and regions, developing skills in map work, fieldwork, data analysis, and considering environmental and social issues, while making connections between local, national and global scales.
